Over the past several years in graduate school, my health was in a downward spiral. I continued to gain weight, my physical activity was almost nonexistent, I was always tired and increasingly disappointed at myself for not doing something about it. In early 2017, I decided to change that.
After extensive research, I made Base 10 my first call. I was searching for structure, top-notch training, and a positive atmosphere. I met with Brandon and almost instantly knew that Base 10 was the right fit for me. Brandon is well-versed on nutrition- and exercise-related research, which is something I value and weighed in when I decided to join Base 10. Going through the personal training put me at ease and provided a foundation to comfortably transition into the group classes, where you have an encouraging and competitive system of amazing people that keeps this a fun experience. The trainers are laser-focused and they really want you to excel so combined with your own drive, they will push you to the next level taking into account the level at which you start and the progress you make.
I have now been at Base 10 for about a year and my body continues to change. I feel fit, I feel strong, I feel good. I have lost over 20 pounds since joining, but beyond the weight loss and muscle gain, it has been a complete body and mind transformation. I do things I never imagined I would do and that confidence transfers into other areas of my life. I firmly believe that beyond the workouts and other habit changes that go hand in hand, the environment at Base 10 has been the engine to staying committed.
WHAT MUSIC DAY PUMPS YOU UP THE MOST IN THE GYM?
I love just about anything on Girl Power Mondays. I also feel the lion within me with some Nelly or Ludacris from early 2000s (what day is that?).
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE TYPE OF WORKOUT?
I prefer workouts that are a bit longer and integrate some running along with other movements; they give me the chance to strategize mid-workout. Also a fan of rowing, deadlifts, and squat cleans.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE GUILTY PLEASURE?
I have a sweet tooth, desserts are my weakness but I like to think of them as the fuel to my soul (there’s an upside to everything).
