I gained 50 pounds with my baby. Fifty ice cream-filled pounds. Probably not a great idea, in hindsight. A few months post-baby, I was still 30 pounds overweight and that weight wasn’t budging.
As someone who loves food (I wrote a cookbook for crying out loud), I refuse to eat boiled broccoli and chicken everyday. It’s not tasty, and it’s definitely not sustainable. So I found what worked for me, while refusing to deprive myself of all of life’s deliciousness.
It took me almost an entire year to lose all the weight. It may have been a little slower than I would have liked, but it was steady and consistent. Being surrounded by the most supportive and uplifting people at every workout–feeling proud of myself for what I had accomplished that day, and enjoying the time I spent with the people giving everything they had alongside me, made losing the weight not feel so hard.
WHAT MUSIC DAY PUMPS YOU UP THE MOST IN THE GYM?
I don’t have just one day. Girl Power Monday always makes me smile, especially if Britney is on, and Dubstep/Trap/EDM Thursday is my other fave. The beat helps me not think about how much ‘suck’ I’m dealing with.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE TYPE OF WORKOUT?
Long workouts make me spontaneously combust, so without a doubt shorter workouts are my cup of tea. Anything with a barbell usually favors my strengths. I really like workouts with pull ups, too. There’s something about conquering having never been able to do one before, and now being able to do a bunch of them that never gets old.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE GUILTY PLEASURE?
I loveeeee salty food: chips, cheese sticks, french fries, pizza. And my favorite way to have something sweet is with SALT in it: salted caramel, chocolate covered pretzels, margaritas…I could keep going.
